The Money Shop - Petrol Guy
The Strategy
We based our new TV commercial for The Money Shop on 'cash for life's little emergencies', and with real people in real-life situations that the audience could identify with. As part of our plan, additional footage was filmed as we believed the concept had great 'viral' marketing potential.
The Reaction
We soon started to see videos and music tracks of one particular character appearing on Social Network sites. Overnight 'Petrol Guy' was born and he never looked back. Our response was to give 'Petrol Guy' his own Facebook and YouTube channels plus Twitter and petrolguy.com his very own website. The extended footage was held back as the level of noise increased in order to heighten the anticipation of its release.
The Benefits
In Petrol Guy, The Money Shop is now engaging with new audience and in a new way and at the same time generating masses of good will that places 'clear blue water' between themselves and their competitors.
The Potential
We've produced a number of web films and are now working on a new TV campaign built around 'Petrol Guy' because the audience just can't get enough of him.
